Yes that is very true. Both Al-Bukhaari & Muslim recorded from 'Abdullaah Ibn 'Abbaas that the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said: فَإِذَا جَاءَ رَمَضَانُ فَاعْتَمِرِي، فَإِنَّ عُمْرَةً فِيهِ تَعْدِلُ حَجَّةً مَعِي “When Ramadaan comes, go for ‘Umrah, because surely a ‘Umrah in that month is equivalent to a Hajj with me (performing Hajj with the Prophet).” {And this particular wording is that of Imaam Muslim} Hadeeths on this topic were also narrated from Jaabir, Abu Hurayrah, Anas Ibn Maalik and Wahb ibn Khanbash. * A Gem: Ishaaq ibn Raahawayh (راهويه) said: What this hadeeth, i.e. “‘Umrah in Ramadaan is equivalent to Hajj”, means is similar to the report narrated from the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم in which he said: “Whoever recites Qul Huwa Allaahu Ahad has recited one-third of the Qur’aan.” Reference: Sunan At-Tirmidhi (2/268)

I had also heard about the hadith you have mentioned in your essay regarding earning the sawap of Hajj but I had doubts about the authenticity of this hadith. May Allah bless you for this enlightening writing.

The hadith about the reward for Hajj and 'Umrah is amazing-I learned about it too. Although it can be done anytime, praying those two rak'ahs in Ramadan is even better so you get so much more reward for it!
Also, I had a question-is it true that for doing 'Umrah in Ramadan, you get the reward of a Hajj?

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم: إِنَّ اللَّهَ يَقُولُ:
“إِنَّ عَبْدًا أَصْحَحْتُ لَهُ جِسْمَهُ، وَوَسَّعْتُ عَلَيهِ فِي مَعِيشَتِهِ، تَمْضِي عَلَيهِ خَمْسَةُ أَعْوَامٍ لاَ يَفِدُ إِلََيَّ لَمَحْرُوم.”

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Allaah says: ‘How is it that I have granted good health and ample means of provision to My slave, and 5 years pass without Him coming to visit My House?’ ”

A better and more accurate translation that I found was the following:
“Verily, a servant of Mine whose body I have made healthy and sound, and whose provision I have widened, whom 5 years pass by him and he does not come to visit Me, is surely a deprived person.”

The latter translation is more precise. This hadeeth qudsi was recorded by Ibn Hibbaan in his Saheeh (# 960), from the Companion Abu Sa’eed Al-Khudri (may Allaah be pleased with him). It was classed as saheeh by Al-Albaani in as-Silsilah as-Saheehah with all of its isnaads (# 1662).

I will try my best to write some more stuff. Currently Imam Karim (here @ PGMA) .. you know he’s gone for Hajj. So I’m basically in charge of everything here. I gotta do the khutbahs and 5 prayers, and lectures, monday-friday and saturday, and also sunday morning.

So I’m kinda tied up. I will try my best to get something right after Hajj season. :) :)
